Krishna Be fearless and pure; never waver in your determination or your dedication to the spiritual life. Give freely. Be self-controlled, sincere, truthful, loving, and full of the desire to serve...Learn to be detached and to take joy in renunciation. Do not get angry or harm any living creature, but be compassionate and gentle; show good will to all. Cultivate vigor, patience, will, purity; avoid malice and pride. Then, you will achieve your destiny. Marcus Aurelius A man's true delight is to do the things he was made for. I seek the truth...it is only persistence in self-delusion and ignorance that does harm. Seneca Be harsh with yourself at times. Retire into yourself as much as possible. Associate with people who are likely to improve you. Welcome those whom you are capable of improving. The process is a mutual one. People learn as they teach.” The worse a person is the less he feels it. There is about wisdom a nobility and magnificence in the fact that she doesn't just fall to a person's lot, that each man owes her to his own efforts, that one doesn't go to anyone other than oneself to find her. When some state or other offered Alexander a part of its territory and half of all its property he told them that "he hadn't come to Asia with the intention of accepting whatever they cared to give him, but of letting them keep whatever he chose to leave them." Philosophy, likewise, tells all other occupations: "˜It's not my intention to accept whatever time is leftover from you; you shall have, instead, what I reject." Give your whole mind to her. A good character is the only guarantee of everlasting, carefree happiness. You want to live—but do you know how to live? You are scared of dying—and, tell me, is the kind of life you lead really any different from being dead? The philosopher: he alone knows how to live for himself. He is the one, in fact, who knows the fundamental thing: how to live. As it is with a play, so it is with life—what matters is not how long the acting lasts, but how good it is. Cling tooth and nail to the following rule: Not to give in to adversity, never to trust prosperity, and always to take full note of fortune's habit of behaving just as she pleases, treating her as if she were actually going to do everything it is in her power to do. Whatever you have been expecting for some time comes as less of a shock. Every day, therefore, should be regulated as if it were the one that brings up the rear, the one that rounds out and completes our lives Just where death is expecting you is something we cannot know; so, for your part, expect him everywhere Life is never incomplete if it is an honorable one. At whatever point you leave life, if you leave it in the right way, it is whole. Philosophy takes as her aim the state of happiness…she shows us what are real and what are only apparent evils. She strips men's minds of empty thinking, bestows a greatness that is solid and administers a check to greatness where it is puffed up and all an empty show; she sees that we are left no doubt about the difference between what is great and what is bloated. Straightforwardness and simplicity are in keeping with goodness. Leo Tolstoy Everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing himself. Carl Jung Everything that irritates us about others can lead us to an understanding of ourselves. Benjamin Franklin Hide not your talents, they for use were made. What's a sundial in the shade? Socrates It is the greatest good for an individual to discuss virtue (aka areté) every day...for the unexamined life is not worth living. Know thyself. Ralph Waldo Emerson No law can be sacred to me but that of my nature. Good and bad are but names very readily transferable to that or this. The only right is what is after my constitution; the only wrong what is against it. To believe your own thought, to believe that what is true for you in your private heart is true for all men—that is genius. What you do speaks so loudly that I cannot hear what you say. A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds, adored by little statesmen and philosophers and divines. With consistency a great soul has simply nothing to do. He may as well concern himself with his shadow on the wall... Mevlana Rumi O, happy the soul that saw its own faults. People of the world don't look at themselves, and so they blame one another. The sword of reality is the saint's protection You think the shadow is the substance Don't allow your animal nature to rule your reason Everyone is so afraid of death, but the real sufis just laugh: nothing tyrannizes their hearts. What strikes the oyster shell does not damage the pearl. Everything in the universe is a pitcher brimming with wisdom and beauty. Little by little, wean yourself. This is the gist of what I have to say. From an embryo whose nourishment comes in the blood, move to an infant drinking milk, to a child on solid food, to a searcher after wisdom, to a hunter of invisible game Loosen the bonds of avarice from your hands and neck Patience is the key to joy. That which is false troubles the heart, but truth brings joyous tranquility. James Allen Only by much searching and mining are gold and diamonds obtained, and man can find every truth connected with his being if he will dig deep into the mine of his soul. St Augustine People travel to wonder at the height of mountains, at the huge waves of the sea, at the long courses of rivers, at the vast compass of the ocean, at the circular motion of the stars; and they pass by themselves without wondering. Patience is the companion of wisdom Confucius Real knowledge is to know the extent of one's ignorance. When you meet someone better than yourself, turn your thoughts to becoming his equal. When you meet someone not as good as you are, look within and examine yourself Even when walking in the company of two other men, I am bound to be able to learn from them. The good points of the one I copy; the bad points of the other I correct in myself. In a hamlet of ten households, there are bound to be those who are my equal in doing their best for others and in being trustworthy in what they say, but they are unlikely to be as eager to learn as I am. Life is really simple, but men insist on making it complicated Those who do not study are only cattle dressed up in men's clothes Only the wisest and the stupidest of men never change The man of wisdom is never in two minds about right and wrong; the man of benevolence never worries about the future; the man of courage is never afraid. M. Scott Peck The giving up of personality traits, well-established patterns of behavior, ideologies, and even whole life styles...these are major forms of giving up that are required if one is to travel very far on the journey of life. Virginia Woolf The man who is aware of himself is henceforward independent; and he is never bored, and life is only too short, and he is steeped through and through with a profound yet temperate happiness. Plato The unexamined life is not worth living. e.e. cummings To be nobody-but-yourself - in a world which is doing its best, night and day, to make you everybody else - means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight; and never stop fighting. Friedrich Nietzsche What is the seal of attained freedom? -No longer being ashamed in front of oneself. A gauge for wisdom.- The growth of wisdom may be gauged exactly by the diminution of ill-temper Death. The certain prospect of death could sweeten every life with a precious and fragrant drop of levity- and now you strange apothecary souls have turned it into an ill-tasting drop of poison that makes the whole of life repulsive. Not the intensity but the duration of high feelings makes high men. Never Forget!- The higher we soar the smaller we appear to those who cannot fly. The good four. Honest with ourselves and with whatever is friend to us; courageous toward the enemy; generous toward the vanquished; polite-always that is how the four cardinal virtues want us. Abraham Maslow (YES) That Maslow Whereas the average individuals "often have not the slightest idea of what they are, of what they want, of what their own opinions are," self-actualizing individuals have "superior awareness of their own impulses, desires, opinions, and subjective reactions in general. There are no perfect human beings! Persons can be found who are good, very good indeed, in fact, great. There do in fact exist creators, seers, sages, saints, shakers, and movers...even if they are uncommon and do not come by the dozen. And yet these very same people can at times be boring, irritating, petulant, selfish, angry, or depressed. To avoid disillusionment with human nature, we must first give up our illusions about it. You will either step forward into growth or you will step back into safety. Carlos Castaneda A warrior is a hunter. He calculates everything. That's control. Once his calculations are over, he acts. He lets go. That's abandon. A warrior is not a leaf at the mercy of the wind. No one can push him; no one can make him do things against himself or against his better judgment. A warrior is tuned to survive, and he survives in the best of all possible fashions. Buddha Believe nothing. No matter where you read it, Or who said it, Even if I have said it, Unless it agrees with your own reason And your own common sense. Rollo May Joy, rather than happiness, is the goal of life, for joy is the emotion which accompanies our fulfilling our natures as human beings. It is based on the experience of one's identity as a being of worth and dignity. The word courage comes from the same stem as the French word Coeur, meaning "heart." Thus just as one's heart, by pumping blood to one's arms, legs, and brain enables all the other physical organs to function, so courage makes possible all the psychological virtues. Without courage other values wither away into mere facsimiles of virtue. George Washington Labor to keep alive in your breast that little spark of celestial fire called conscience. Mahatma Gandhi A 'No' uttered from deepest conviction is better and greater than a 'Yes' merely uttered to please, or what is worse, to avoid trouble. Ayn Rand It does not matter that only a few in each generation will grasp and achieve the full reality of man's proper stature—and the rest will betray it. It is those few that move the world and give life its meaning—and it is those few that I have always sought to address. The rest are no concern of mine; it is not me or "The Fountainhead" that they will betray: it is their own souls. The secrets of this earth are not for all men to see, but only for those who will seek them. Steven Pressfield The Kabbalah describes angels as bundles of light, meaning intelligence, consciousness. Kabbalists believe that above every blade of grass is an angel crying "Grow! Grow!" ... I believe that above the entire human race is one super-angel, crying "Evolve! Evolve! Lao-tzu When superior people hear of the Way, they carry it out with diligence. When middling people hear of the Way, it sometimes seems to be there, sometimes not. When lesser people hear of the Way, they ridicule it greatly. If they didn't laugh at it, it wouldn't be the Way. |

| I am starting to quite enjoy this rabbit hole sort of thing into my abyss. I wonder what Plato would think of it? I think I like this, having a place for me to put things and write things down. When I come back and read, which I do often, I relax and am able to work on my internal balance. This brings me back into focus of who I am and all that I wish to be. Energy (good or bad) is used for control, control is used for power, and power is used to put out energy (good or bad) to start the process again. Free will is that choice to function out of balance, which leads to more fear, ignorance, and poor decision making. Start internally. Nothing is the master and All is the student. |

| Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it. Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumoured by many. Do not believe in anything because it is found written in your religious books. Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders. Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations. | From Kahlil Gibran in The Prophet. Chapter 15 REASON AND PASSION "Speak to us of Reason and Passion." And he answered saying: Your soul is oftentimes a battlefield, upon which your reason and your judgment wage war against passion and your appetite. Would that I could be the peacemaker in your soul, that I might turn the discord and the rivalry of your elements into oneness and melody. But how shall I, unless you yourselves be also the peacemakers, nay, the lovers of all your elements? Your reason and your passion are the rudder and the sails of your seafaring soul. If either your sails or your rudder be broken, you can but toss and drift, or else be held at a standstill in mid-seas. For reason, ruling alone, is a force confining; and passion, unattended, is a flame that burns to its own destruction. Therefore let your soul exalt your reason to the height of passion; that it may sing; And let it direct your passion with reason, that your passion may live through its own daily resurrection, and like the phoenix rise above its own ashes. I would have you consider your judgment and your appetite even as you would two loved guests in your house. Surely you would not honour one guest above the other; for he who is more mindful of one loses the love and the faith of both. Among the hills, when you sit in the cool shade of the white poplars, sharing the peace and serenity of distant fields and meadows - then let your heart say in silence, "God rests in reason." And when the storm comes, and the mighty wind shakes the forest, and thunder and lightning proclaim the majesty of the sky, - then let your heart say in awe, "God moves in passion." And since you are a breath In God's sphere, and a leaf in God's forest, you too should rest in reason and move in passion. |

| It has been a while since I had the time to add any new quotes. However, I have been nudged back so to speak, after receiving my latest edition of Termite, The Journal of the Lewis M. Terman Society, which I am honored to be a member of. It had a couple of pages with quotes regarding genius, and although I never thought I was a genius just because I payed more attention than most, and have always thought anyone could know what I know, I thought the quotes were pretty good, and having never looked up quotes regarding genius, thought I should capture them here. So I will start my new page 2 for quotes with them and see where the page goes. :-) Peace |

| TO DO 1. Establish an Objective Find out who you are. Be that person to the best of your ability. Put out as much good energy as you can. Understand and seek balance. Always seek the Truth. Learn and grow. Understand that each consciousness's journey is individualistic with none above or below another. Self Awareness is like the waters of all consciousness, you can float and go nowhere or swim and get anywhere. Everything is good and everything is bad, and relative to one's perception related to one's own self. Inside every fragile bag of shit is an amazing and awesomely powerful force that can make a difference in this world. |
